SPAL Automotive Announces New Ankeny, Iowa Manufacturing and Office Facility

SPAL Automotive, a world leader in the design and manufacture of high-quality electric fans, blowers, and fluid pumps for all types of vehicles and equipment, is excited to announce the planned construction of a state-of-the-art U.S. manufacturing and office facility located in Ankeny, Iowa.

Founded in Italy in 1959, SPAL initially specialized in plastic mold design and production. SPAL has been designing, producing and marketing high performance axial fans and centrifugal blowers for cars, buses, off-road vehicles, construction machinery, agricultural tractors, trucks, powersports, and industrial equipment for over 60 years.

The SPAL team has an international presence with 10 subsidiaries and offices located around the globe. The location of subsidiaries is carefully coordinated to optimize the distribution and marketing of SPAL products with customer service and distribution centers based close to key customers. As manufacturers and the market are demanding products to perform increasingly complex tasks and requesting highly integrated systems, SPAL is prepared to invest in the future and rise to the challenge.

SPAL USA, the North American subsidiary of SPAL Automotive Srl, has been providing products from Italy since 1989. The company’s current sales and distribution center is housed in a 40,000-square-foot facility located in Ankeny, Iowa. From this location, SPAL USA provides value-added systems, components and support for OEM and aftermarket applications.

Construction on the new U.S.- based manufacturing and office building is slated to begin in 2023 and is being driven by production of cooling fans for a new electric vehicle platform of a major US auto manufacturer. Construction will take place in 2 to 3 stages with the first stage slated for completion by early 2025.

The planned facility will be highly energy efficient and feature enhanced insulation with the entire facility being powered exclusively by green energy. This will be realized through a combination of utilizing existing renewable electricity along with solar panel technology, resulting in minimal impact to the environment. The production processes at the new facility will be achieved through a combination of highly skilled production engineers and state-of-the-art automated technology.
